Family Vacations in FarOut’s Overland Vehicles

Founded for Family

We founded FarOut Wilderness so our kids, Phoebe and Zara, would grow up adventuring in BC’s backcountry. Our mission is to share our local knowledge and favourite 4×4 camping vehicles with families like yours.

Planning safe trips

Many of the families adventuring with us are taking their children into the backcountry for the first time. Our owner, Sam, is here to help plan your family camping trip. He’ll share tips from travelling with his kids, and make sure your family feels safe and comfortable.

Family FAQs

Is it safe to camp in the backcountry with kids?2024-04-10T19:12:41-04:00

That’s where FarOut’s going to help you out. Safety’s our top priority, as we created this company to travel in the backcountry with our own kids.

Prior to your trip, you can book a complementary call with our owner Sam, who’ll talk you through how to stay safe in the backcountry with kids.

We’ve also stocked the campers with bear spray, emergency rescue equipment, and more to keep your kids safe!

Are roof-top tents safe?2024-04-10T19:13:01-04:00

It’s the safest form of camping around!

Getting up and down the ladder to the tent is very easy. Our 2 year old is able to climb up, and the ladder can hold people weighing up to 330lbs.

Roof-top tents were created to give overland travellers in Australia some distance from poisonous snakes. While we don’t have anything that deadly in BC, being up above the ground gives some added protection from wildlife and bad weather.

Can two adults and two kids fit in the tent?2024-04-10T19:07:34-04:00

We’re a family of four with a 5 and 2 year old, and we fit comfortably. Once your kids get older, it’ll get squishier.

If you’re travelling with teens or simply want more space, we can add a second roof top tent to the vehicle, or rent out a ground tent.
